Sponsored Institutions

Abhiyan fosters a pioneering approach that encourages the independence of teams and initiatives which undertake sector-specific work. In this way, Abhiyan nurtures leadership within itself and promotes the “splitting-off” of smaller factions once they are ready and well equipped to further pursue specific initiatives. Thus, out of Abhiyan have grown autonomous institutions that have developed into other non-profits, or companies that have a strong focus on social responsibility.

Allowing for a smooth and natural separation of various groups has led to the flourishing of these autonomous institutions that are now able to focus more extensively on particular development issues. This approach has proven to advance the capacity of Abhiyan as a network to fully engage with communities in need and fosters leadership and collaboration within the network itself.

Setu – While Abhiyan works closely with all of its sponsored institutions, it works most intimately with Setu, an initiative that works especially to strengthen local governance in the rural and least developed areas of the Kutch district. Each Setu is a human resource center serving a cluster of villages and operates as a team of 4 – 5 social workers. Setus help communities and local governments to realize their development needs. Most importantly, after identifying the needs of communities, Setus facilitate the work of resource agencies to fill gaps in local development work.
